Refresh Without a Full Replacement

Concrete Resurfacing & Overlays Adelaide

Not every tired driveway needs to be broken up and replaced. If the existing slab is structurally sound but just worn, stained or dated-looking, a resurfacing overlay can give it a completely new finish — decorative or plain — at a fraction of the cost of a full tear-out and repour.

About this service

When Resurfacing Makes Sense — and When It Doesn't

Resurfacing only works on a slab that's structurally sound — the existing concrete needs to be free of major structural cracking, significant movement or serious base failure underneath. What resurfacing solves is a worn, stained, dated or cosmetically tired surface on concrete that's otherwise doing its job. An overlay is bonded onto the cleaned, prepared existing surface and can be finished plain or with a full decorative treatment, essentially giving you a new-looking driveway or patio without breaking out and repouring the whole slab.

We're upfront when a slab isn't a good resurfacing candidate. If the underlying cracking suggests a base or reinforcement problem rather than just surface wear, resurfacing over it just hides the issue temporarily rather than fixing it — in that case, we'll recommend proper repair or replacement instead, even though it's a bigger job.

Slab Condition Assessment
An honest assessment of whether your existing concrete is a genuine candidate for resurfacing, or whether it actually needs replacing.
Surface Preparation
Cleaning, grinding or acid etching of the existing surface so the overlay bonds properly rather than sitting loose on top.
Crack & Joint Treatment
Existing cracks and joints treated so they don't simply telegraph straight through the new overlay.
Decorative Overlay Finishes
Stencilled, coloured or textured overlay finishes to genuinely transform a dated driveway or patio's appearance.
Plain Resurfacing
A simpler, uniform resurface for slabs that just need to look fresh again without a decorative upgrade.
Sealing
A protective, UV-stable sealer applied over the finished overlay to lock in the new surface.

A Cost-Effective Option for Established Adelaide Homes

Plenty of established Adelaide properties have original concrete from decades ago that's structurally fine but looks dated — plain grey, surface-worn, or just no longer matching a renovated home. Resurfacing is a genuinely cost-effective way to lift a property's street appeal without the cost and disruption of a full driveway replacement, provided the underlying slab has been properly assessed first.

Common questions

Concrete Resurfacing & Overlays FAQs

The key question is whether the existing cracking and wear is cosmetic or structural. We assess this on-site — significant structural cracking, sunken sections or base failure generally mean replacement is the right call, while surface wear, staining or dated colour are good candidates for resurfacing.
A properly prepared and sealed overlay on a sound existing slab can last many years, though it's ultimately still relying on the structural integrity of the concrete underneath. We'll give you a realistic expectation based on your slab's condition.
Minor, stable surface cracks can be treated and largely disguised, but active or structural cracks will generally telegraph through an overlay over time if the underlying cause isn't addressed first.
Generally yes, often significantly so, since there's no excavation, base work or new structural concrete involved — you're paying for surface preparation and a decorative or protective overlay rather than an entirely new slab.
Both — stencilled, coloured and textured overlay finishes are available, so resurfacing can also be an opportunity to upgrade a plain driveway to a decorative one at the same time.
