A concrete driveway looks like a simple slab once it's finished, but what determines whether it lasts fifteen years or cracks within two happens almost entirely below the surface. The base needs to be excavated to consistent depth and compacted in layers, not just levelled by eye. Reinforcement needs to be sized to what will actually drive on it — a passenger car driveway and one that regularly takes a loaded trailer or a delivery truck are different jobs, even if they look the same once poured.
The concrete itself also needs to be the right strength (MPa rating) for a vehicle-trafficked slab, poured to adequate thickness, and finished with control joints placed at sensible intervals so any cracking that does eventually occur happens along a joint line rather than across the middle of a panel. Get all of that right and a driveway becomes close to maintenance-free for well over a decade.
